OCTOBER 19 at 11:00 amBobbi Gibb will be in the store reading and signing the book "The Girl Who Ran"
an illustrated children's book based on her trailblazing run.
In 1966 Gibb's application to run in the marathon was denied, the Boston Athletic Association informed her that women were incapable of running the 26.2 mile course. Dressed in her brother's clothing she ran anyway, and finished ahead of two-thirds of the male runners, helping to change the world forever for female athletes.
This book shares her inspiring story with new generations, and has been honored with the Amelia Bloomer award by the American Library Association as one the best feminist books for young readers.October 2019
Rockport women launching new book
"ROCKPORT — After the success of their first collaboration — a book highlighting Rockport — local artist and shopkeeper Mary Faino and writer Sarah Kelly have launched a second book about Rome. This book is titled "Rome, a day: Scenes from the Eternal City."
5 Stars. "This place kicks ass! Well, it kicks ass as much as a stationary store can actually kick ass. great selection of paper and the such! some cute stuff! Definitely worth checking it out if you're in town!" Greg, Boston
5 Stars. "This is one of my favorite stores in Rockport. Always has new stuff...and a lot of great toys. We shopped there on Christmas for my son and found everything we needed and the prices are fair, not inflated as in other stores. I highly recommend that friends and visitors go in!" Esther, Rockport, MA.
5 Stars. "This is a great little shop! The merchandise is always displayed in the most enticing manner and has obviously been chosen carefully. Half of the shop is full of paper goods and other gift-type things: cool totes, pretty calendars and journals, letterpressed greeting cards. If you're in town for the day and forgot your Moleskine, you can grab yet another here. The other half of the shop is full of really cool, non mass-market toys. Small producers and European makers offer a really unique selection of toys of all sizes for babies and kids. The shop is well-thought out and comfortable to visit and completely dangerous if you happen to have a thing for paper goods, like me!" Jessica, Somerville, MA.
Rockport's Growing Mermaid Problem
"As many feared once Rockport allowed liquor, the town is falling apart. Its latest scourge? Mermaids"
Margaret Young
Rockport Art Galleries & Shops: There are many in this bustling little town. Here are a few of my favorites from among those I saw … The Paper Mermaid for a charming collection of children’s gifts and books as well as gifts cards illustrated by the talented illustrator/owner Mary Faino who also illustrated the ideal souvenir book for children, “a day in Rockport” on sale at her shop.

"...A cute storefront on Rockport’s picturesque Main Street, jam-packed with all kinds of eye candy. It’s my ideal kind of store—full of stationery, toys, cool office supplies, and all sorts of “nifty gifties. Mary Faino, The Paper Mermaid’s owner, has an excellent eye for all things funky and intriguing and pretty and irresistible. Which is no wonder, considering she is also an artist. Mary’s illustrations are featured on her own line of greeting cards, which happily share shop space with cards and boxed notes from other local artists...
You can easily dedicate some serious time to The Paper Mermaid, perusing and poking, and then trying (in vain) to whittle down your shopping list. The good news is, no matter how big or little your budget, there’s something here for you (and Faino keeps prices reasonable), so you’re sure to leave happy.
So, next time you’re in the area, be sure to pay a visit to this magical little shop."

Mermaids on Main Street
"The Paper Mermaid is a treat, both visually and practically-speaking. Mary, the owner, carries some fantastic toys – we are faithful fans of the Automoblox line of cars (check ‘em out, parents & grandparents – they are inexpensive, well-made, and kids like them – what more could you ask for?), books, and games. She also covers a lot of ground in the world of paper. There is a great selection of cards, many of which feature designs by local artists (including Mary herself), notepaper, and art supplies, both for children and grown-ups. The atmosphere of the store is both modern and vintage, wildly colorful but also somehow very calm. Shopping for toys and greeting cards can actually be a pleasant experience, shockingly enough, when you do it at The Paper Mermaid."

"I always thought the Paper Mermaid was enchanted, but now it's confirmed. Even mini horses want to shop there!"
